Agassi and Epidurals
If you want to know what back pain is all about read this exert from Andre Agassi's new book.
When I read it, I was like "wow, this is what I went through."
Except I didn't get up and go play the U.S. Open the next day.
Being mortal, I ended up missing a month of work.
It's pretty accurate and eerily similar to what I felt like I was going through.

El Duderino Rolls!
Turning 40 wasn't so bad.
My friends got me my first bowling ball.

It took some time for me to make it down to have the holes drilled and the name engraved, but it was worth it.

I was nervous about the first game. But I got a strike on the very first roll!
I settled in for a respectable 144.

Second game on the new ball was my all time personal high. A 190.
I immediately went and thanked the guy in the pro shop who drilled the holes.
NICE.
Super Bowwwwwwwl suckers, look out! Here come "El Duderino"

Crab Trap Cabin Phase 1
Over Labor Day weekend, I joined a ragtag crew of pirates and scallywags who endeavored to begin construction on a clandestine rendezvous structure build on an undisclosed island in the Intracoastal Waterway.

Turner Golf @ Stone Mountain
September 12th was the 2nd annual Turner Studios Edit vs. Effects departmental golf outing.

Stone Mountain golf course was the site of this year's duel.
I was very fortunate to be partnered with Scott Bramlett. Scott is a good golfer. He must be becuase somehow we managed to post the low 2-some score despite my having a nagging neck strain.

I guess after 5 beers and a cigar, everything just loosens up.
About half way through the round I was actually able to take full swings and carry my share of the scoring.
Stephen Villante and Bob Stutzman with the leaderboard.
Next Year Edit is determined to WIN!

Primed and Ready to Go
Here is the latest look.
The tile is done and ready for grout.
The trim is in around the shower and ready to be painted.
I have to do some trim around the door, oh yeah and get the door back to "square" or at least able to shut properly.

This light is coming out.
The new one is at the house waiting for painting to finish.
There is also a new light to go about the sink.

DRD Visit
I drove to Lafayette, IN to visit with my dad last weekend.
He had been busy in his wood shop for several months making various pieces of furniture for my shed.

Here is the router table he built from scratch.
He also gave me the router that goes inside the cabinet.
Very NICE.
And here is a cabinet for holding tools and hardware and whatnot.
It's got peg board on the inside and out, which is good for hanging hand tools and things.
A nice design element is the cleat that runs the whole length of the back of the cabinet, which will make it so much easier to mount in the shed.
We had a nice visit. Got some chores done and went out to eat a couple times.
Once to Red Lobster and once to Arni's Pizza (a Lafayette institution). Yum

Vanity Dry Fit
So here is a first look at the custom vanity and faucet.
The base will be stained and sealed.
Meanwhile, the tiling continues.
Terri says to me last night, "I didn't realize it was going to take so many sessions to finish this thing."
I suppose if we started before 9pm each night we might be able to speed things up a bit.
Oh well.

Friendship Project - Brooklyn Sculpture
The Friendship Project women have done it again.
This time a sculpture for a public art show in Brooklyn, NY.
Link

Here is the preview in our backyard.

We had a nice turn out to send this thing off in style.
Here are the women responsible.

Tile and Rough-In
I realized there were a couple pics that didn't make the blog...
So here you go.

This is the rough-in after the plumber came the first time.
He will come again when everything is pretty much done to attach the fixtures.
Here I am doing something.

So Terri and I tiled last night for a couple hours.
We're just getting to it a bit here and a bit there.
But we're making progress.

Lath Tub
This weekend brought more demolition.
I pulled the old drywall, then plaster and lath walls off in preparation for new backer board and tiles.
The need to go all the way to the studs was mainly due to the layer upon layer of walls creeping farther and farther into the tub space.
If I hadn't ripped out the old walls, my newly place tiles would have been floating sort of cantilevered over the tub.
In the above photo you can see both the opening where the original house had a window,
conveniently located just above the bathtub, as well as the under side of the wood siding on the outside of my house. Yup, there were even some areas where I could see right through the siding to the out side.

I'm putting a plastic vapor barrier and insulation in the exterior wall to try and get some added efficiency.
Its a dirty job, but someone's got to do it.
I didn't get the shot, but the bathtub was filled to the top with plater and old lath.
Maybe I'll Photoshop that in later for the records.

Over the weekend
The bathroom project is coming along nicely.
The floor has been completely exposed now and I spent much of the weekend stripping adhesive off the old tile.

Here is a look at the new sink basin. It's much smaller than the one that was in here when we bought the house, and a much better size for the room.
The floors in the hallway are now exposed too.
Almost ready for a call to the refinishing experts.
Meanwhile, this lily finally bloomed.
We've been watching it grow and grow and grow.
The fence behind it is 6 feet, more like 8-9 feet at the tip top.
So you can tell, this is a tall lily.

Gladiolus
Coreopsis

Verbena

Spiderwort

Hydrangea

A little critter house
Our freind Corina is a metal worker and artist.
She is storing a couple piece of her art work in our yard.
I love this one "Walking Boat"
Fun.

Please let me know if this bug is dangerous.
He looks so strange.
I love his colors.
